Wine country golden hour is famous for a reason: low sun raking across vine rows through dust and warm air. It lasts about twenty minutes and it will not wait for your toasts.
Know your sunset time
Napa sunset is roughly 8:30pm in late June, 7:10pm in mid-September, 6:15pm in late October and 4:55pm in December. Golden hour begins about forty minutes before.
Build it into the timeline
We schedule a ten-minute couple's break during dinner service, right after the main course is served. Guests are seated and occupied; nobody notices you are gone.
Where to stand
Walk the property with your photographer at the same hour during a site visit. West-facing vine rows and open hilltops beat pretty gardens once the sun is low.
