Napa Valley Wedding Venues: An Insider's Guide

Long candlelit reception table at a Napa Valley winery

Napa Valley is one of the most photographed wedding destinations in the world and one of the most tightly regulated. The Winery Definition Ordinance limits which wineries may host marketing events at all, which is why the same twenty or so properties appear in every Napa wedding you have ever saved.

Understanding that constraint early saves months. Here is how we map Napa for our couples.

Winery estates with event permits

Permitted winery venues in Yountville, Rutherford, St. Helena and Calistoga generally host 100 to 200 guests, with site fees from $15,000 to $45,000. Many require you to use their exclusive caterer and cap the number of weddings per year, which is why Saturdays disappear 18 months ahead.

  • Yountville and Rutherford: manicured, classic, walkable to hotels
  • Calistoga: warmer, more rustic, better value in shoulder season
  • Hillside estates: dramatic views, but tight shuttle logistics

Private villas and estate homes

Private-home weddings in Napa can be magical and legally complicated. Most residential properties require a temporary use permit, neighbor notification and a licensed sound plan. Start that process at least six months out and budget for a production build: restrooms, power, flooring and lighting.

Hotels and resort properties

If you want your guests to walk from room to ceremony, resort weddings in Napa are unmatched for ease. Food and beverage minimums typically run $40,000 to $120,000 for a Saturday in season, and they replace many separate rental costs.

The Napa timeline reality

Summer temperatures in the upvalley regularly exceed 95°F. We move ceremonies to 5:30 or 6pm from June through September, build shade into cocktail hour, and place water stations everywhere. Comfort is the difference between a beautiful wedding and a beloved one.

Oasis Weddings & Events plans and designs weddings across Sonoma and Napa Valley. If you are dreaming of a wine country celebration, we would love to hear your story.

Frequently asked

Can you get married at any Napa winery?
No. Only wineries with a use permit allowing marketing events may host weddings, which is why the list of true Napa wedding venues is relatively short.
How much does a Napa Valley wedding cost?
Full Napa Valley weddings for 120 guests typically land between $150,000 and $350,000 all in, with venue and catering making up roughly half.
What is the best month for a Napa wedding?
Late September and October bring harvest energy and mild evenings. May and early June are lush and green with lower heat risk than midsummer.
