The Vineyard Wedding Timeline That Actually Works

In wine country, you do not build a timeline forward from getting ready. You build it backwards from two fixed points: sunset and the sound curfew.
A September Saturday, 140 guests
Sunset 7:12pm, music off at 10pm.
- 1:00pm — hair and makeup final touches, details photographed
- 3:30pm — first look and couple portraits in the shade
- 4:15pm — wedding party and family photos
- 5:00pm — guests arrive, welcome drinks, shuttle wave two
- 5:30pm — ceremony (30 minutes)
- 6:00pm — cocktail hour, family formals finish
- 7:00pm — dinner seated, golden hour portraits at 7:05pm
- 8:30pm — toasts, then first dance
- 9:00pm — dancing
- 10:00pm — music off, late-night bites, shuttles depart
The buffers that save the day
We add fifteen minutes after photos, ten before the ceremony, and ten before toasts. Those thirty-five minutes are what allow a day to feel unhurried even when something runs long — and something always runs long.
Golden hour is a scheduled event
Step away for ten minutes about forty minutes before sunset. It is the single best photographic decision of the day and costs you almost nothing socially.
